FAQs

Is it the same cost at weekends as during the week?

Yes - and no plans to change anything at present.

Are there special rates for assistants/students/test?

Yes. Rates for non-commercial shoots are available at a much reduced price with the stipulation that payment is made on the day. Please check the Rates for current prices.

Are there any hidden charges?

No. Everything is on the rates and rental pages. You are paying for the studio hire - extras would be background paper (charged by the metre if you use a sweep - drops are free), lighting hire and/or overtime.

NOTE: There is an additional charge for the use of continuous lighting as noted on the Equipment Rental page.

What is the parking situation?

There is plenty of very cheap on-street parking - currently £2.80 for 9 hours.

Please note that the signs above the bays say you can only park for two hours. This is wrong. The machines are correct and traffic wardens will not fine you if you have a valid ticket.

However, your best bet is to use the secure car park where you can park all day for £3.00 just 100m away - see Directions page for details.

Which is the nearest tube?

Manor House - that's the next stop after Finsbury Park on the Piccadilly Line (though you can use the Victoria Line to get to Finsbury Park and walk across to the adjoining platform for the Piccadilly Line).

There is also a frequent overground service from Liverpool Street Station that stops at Stamford Hill Station which is only a short walk away.

Does the lighting hire from the studio include insurance?

No, this is the responsibility of the person hiring the studio and any breakages must be paid for.

Do you have three-phase power?

No, there are three ring-mains circuits so quite a lot is possible but heavy-duty HMIs would unfortunately trip the circuits.

What are the food and catering facilities?

The studio has a small kitchen with an oven, a fridge and a large selection of cups, glasses, plates, etc.

The Florentia Village Café is two minutes walk away and there are various eateries that can deliver. Directions to the nearest supermarkets can be found on the directions page.

What background rolls do you have?

A changing mix, but we keep the basics in stock.

Is there a cove?

No.

Do you have a wind machine?

Yes, one of the Bowens jetstream ones and at present it is included in the rental price - but do be careful that it doesn't knock anything over please.

What is the flooring?

There is a light wood laminate over the whole surface.

What is the available light like?

Well, so long as you remember that you are in London rather than Cape Town, it is pretty good. There are three large windows facing south-west and skylights along the length of the roof.

Can you black out the studio completely?

Yes. The skylights have electric blackout blinds, there are velcro blinds for the side windows and a sliding panel goes over the ventilation fans. You can get the studio blacked out in a matter of minutes.

Is it suitable for film/video?

Music videos and film can be shot here as it can be blacked out. You will know your requirements better than I do. However, there are two things to note: it is not sound-proofed and would not be suitable if you are intending to record sound, and it does not feature three-phase power so the 10K HMI will have to go elsewhere. On the positive side, there are three ring mains to use, so with a bit of ingenuity and care you should be able to manage it if your lighting requirements are not excessive.

Who owns the studio?

It belongs to Nick White. He is a professional photographer working mainly within the stock industry.

Why is it called Pramdog?

Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Where's the nearest Supermarket?

There are two Sainsbury's close by - one is a three minute walk, the other a short drive with an underground car park. Have a look at the directions page to see how to get there.
